Say _what_?

What? Do journalists just make sh!# up? It appears that at least one at Creators Syndicate does. Ms Susan Estrich appears not to have the first doggoned clue what she’s talking about. Interestingly, the “Write the Author” feature on Creators Syndicate’s site is non-functional tonight, which means I can’t get a [...]

Molly was supposed to be Paw’s dog. Poor old Blackjack was going blind and appeared as though he had little time left. Aunt Mae picked up a black Lab puppy, soon to be known as Molly, to take Blackjack’s place.
When Paw was in the nursing home, he loved to hear about Molly. [...]
Happy birthday, Molly

Today marks Molly’s first year.
We’ve only had you since September, but the past eight months have been a blast. You’ve learned a lot, girl, and there’s plenty more learning for you to do.
You some joy to our days, particularly when Mama is missing Phydeaux. We talk some trash with you, but you know [...]
The 33rd stone
Posted at 5:11 am | Filed Under Rants, Uncategorized, Weekly reviews
Under April 22’s posting, we mentioned that there Virginia Tech had added a 33rd stone to the memorial in front of Burruss. Yesterday’s Roanoke Times offers that it was not VT who had put out that stone, but Ms Katelynn Johnson, a student at VT. Here’s the article.
Good for Ms Johnson, for standing [...]
Supporting Dr. Steger

It’s our opinion that Dr. Steger did a very good job providing a dignified face for the University under the circumstances of last week. Many of the media and the finger-pointers out there were asking for his dismissal.
Black Cat Research, Governor Kaine, and the Hokie Nation support Dr. Steger and his actions. This article on [...]
Cancer sucks.

Did we mention that already? We did, huh? Well guess what? It’s still true, and we’re saying it again.
It clobbers the patient, both physically and mentally, and it continues its nastiness by working to tear down those who support the patient. Family members work doubly hard in support, trying both to help and maintain the [...]
“We are Virginia Tech!”
Posted at 8:07 pm | Filed Under Rants, Uncategorized
Not “Virginia Tech University.”
Katie Couric, the local Fox station, and at least one blog have referred to us as Virginia Tech University. Stop that, dammit! We are Virginia Tech. Don’t believe us? Just ask Nikki Giovanni, or any Tech student.
Come on. It’s time for the news media and several others [...]
Week in review, 22 April 2007
Posted at 8:13 am | Filed Under Rants, Uncategorized, Weekly reviews
What a week. Tragedy. Loss. Grief. Anger. Finger-pointing. Road to recovery. Hokie strength.
Pain: Thirty-two innocent lives lost.
Dignity: VT added a 33rd stone to the memorial in front of Burruss.
Awesome: community strength. The Hokie Nation certainly pulls together in times of crisis. This week, we’ve had the [...]

We also received this one in today’s email. In the message, credit is given to Chris Kennedy. Thank you, Chris.
(22 April edit: we’ve lost the image… will repost as soon as we find it again.)
Good job, Governor Kaine

Quoting from this morning’s Yahoo article:
“I think that people who want to take this within 24 hours of the event and make it their political hobby horse to ride … I’ve got nothing but loathing for them,” Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine said. “To those who want to try to make this into [...]
